Introduction

The Quality Improvement (QI) Subcommittee, established in 2019, actively guides and supports NewSTEPs Quality Improvement activities. Our mission is to assist newborn screening (NBS) programs in utilizing evidence-based quality improvement methodologies to enhance system performance and quality, develop replicable and sustainable models for NBS quality improvement initiatives, and ultimately improve health outcomes for newborns with a positive screen.

The subcommittee has developed various resources, including this Starting a Quality Improvement Project toolkit. This toolkit is designed to help the newborn screening community learn and apply Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methods effectively. It provides structured modules and practical tools to support quality improvement efforts.

The Starting a Quality Improvement course is an online, interactive, on-demand course to equip the newborn screening community with the skills to implement CQI methods.
